How can i improve my decals?

Image

Ive used both ways using a decal with an alpha channel and also using a separate texture just for the alpha. But its not blending well with the material behind it.

Image

I made the alpha texture slightly gray to see what it would look like but its still not what i want.

the alpha channel has to be set as BLEND_Translucent.. by the looks of it you got the opacity one right (or else the opacity node would be greyed out), so check the top image connected to diffuse is on 'BLEND_Opaque' in the drop down options.

other than that, is the raw image/logo slightly transparent (as in not solid color)?

What im trying to do is get translucency without the loss of the colour so much.

Ive tried both giving it more opacity by adjusting the alpha channel and by adjusting different blend modes. Im using a decal material is that the right way to do it or should i be using material instances?

Slightly grey alpha channel.

With a totally white alpha channel.

As you can see i get the translucency i want but the colors do not stay as vibrant as deltas decals with the same vibrance. What am i doing wrong?

Im using blend_translucent and mlm_phong. i notice no difference from using masked.

The difference I see between the graffiti and the star is that the graffiti is basically a solid color fill where the star has a diffused fill and that might make a difference on its transparency??

Can you make the star sign with a solid blue and white fill?

Just play around with the opacity max clip value. default is like .0333 or something, mess with it till you get what you like.
