America’s Army community members have often asked about the closed Beta Program and how to become a Beta Tester. Here is a brief overview of how the program works:

Who are the Beta Testers?

Beta Testers are volunteers. They come from all walks of life and have varying computer and game skills. The most important thing that Beta Testers have in common is the enjoyment of playing America’s Army and a desire to contribute their efforts and time to the development and success of the game.

What do Beta Testers do?

    1) Test Plans: Beta Testers perform specific system/component testing as outlined in test plans designed to run through all potential variables a player may experience while using of the game software.

    2) Play Tests: Beta Testers perform regular play test sessions designed to load the servers and check, team balance in maps and of course whether or not the game is fun to play.

    3) Bug Reporting: Beta Testers report all bugs discovered during any of the above mentioned assignments and are expected to provide those reports in a clear and concise format as required by the Development Team.

    4) Feedback: Beta Testers provide valuable feedback to the Developers to assist in game design. Feedback includes anything from basic user interface to specific map design and game play features.

    5) At times Beta Testers act as ambassadors by helping new players to learn the game

What do Beta Testers get in return?

Beta Testers get the opportunity to mold the game we love to play. They get to see new game versions with features and maps prior to public release, and collaborate with a terrific group of people from all over the world. As a reward for their work, testers receive recognition for their efforts with in-game Beta icons and public forum avatars.

Beta Recruiting - When and What we are looking for:

Beta recruiting is initiated when project requirements dictate the need to bring additional people into the program.

  • We are looking for reliable and devoted gamers.
  • We are looking for dependable people that understand schedules and deadlines.
  • We are looking for inexperienced players who are not afraid to ask questions.
  • We are looking for gear heads, tinkerers, and gamers with a knack for breaking stuff.
  • We are looking for the full time professional player.
  • We are looking for the part time recreational player.
  • We are looking for players that can take direction.
  • We are looking for people who respect other players and are ambassadors, always seeking to help new inexperienced players.

Sound confusing? We need to get feedback and bug reports from all different types of players. There is no single group of people that make the best testers. If we only had the professional gamers, then we would have a game that only caters to that group. Conversely, limiting the program to casual gamers would frustrate the more serious fan base. To test the game from front to back, we need players of every type.

How do we find new Beta Testers?

We use several different methods to find new testers:

The first method we use is to ask active Beta Testers to nominate people they think would be an asset, although it does not guarantee acceptance into the program. One of the biggest rewards for being a Beta Tester is the opportunity to select and train the next generation of testers.

Another method used to find potential Beta Testers is by compiling a list of some of the most active Public and Open Beta version players (recent activity over several months).

Additional candidates are identified by monitoring Public Bug submissions. We look for individuals who consistently provide clear and concise bug reports, follow the requested submission format, and describe the reproduction steps or any additional information as requested.

Below is a basic list of requirements to become a Beta Tester.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a PC meeting the minimum system requirements
  • All applicants must pass screening for any prior cheat or exploit history
  • Commit to a minimum required level of participation to remain in the program.
  • You still must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English.
  • Agree to the NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement). You agree to not share information in any way regarding the Development and Testing of America’s Army game.
  • Beta testers are all on the same team. Egos, Clans, or other affiliations are left at the door.
  • Understand that others may respectfully disagree with your opinion.
  • Be willing to accept that some things suggested may not be implemented.
  • You have the opportunity to provide input, but final decisions are made by the Developers.
  • Must complete the Beta tester training program.

Still Want to Help?

Do you think you would be a good fit and meet all of the qualifications but still have not been invited? During each recruitment we are only looking for a specific number of recruits. The best thing to do is actively play the game and submit any bugs that you find in the bug report link on your game profile. Your chance may be closer than you think.

Shoot, move, and communicate.
