Fair enough, it looks like my cunning attempt at continuing the derailment of this thread didnt work.

Heres my take on vehicles in games generally and America's Army specifically.

Vehicles have their place in FPS games as long as there is a realistic point to them being there. From my perspective there are few genuine reasons to have a vehicle in a FPS such as very large environment (Snake Plain) or that having the vehicle enhances a story (Convoy section of CoD). Other than that games tend to use vehicles as a platform to add a demolition derby aspect to a game when they cant think of anything better to do. Its almost a cop out "...I've run out of good ideas for why we are running around shooting stuff...I know lets stick a jeep/tank/ice cream van in here so they can drive around and crash in to stuff..."

The exception to the rule would be Just Cause 2 where as destruction of everything is the point of the game vehicles are awesome! :twisted:

In MP games adding vehicles also has a negative affect on game play. Im sure alot of us remember getting constantly TK'd for the Warthog drivers seat or a helicopter spot on BF2.....

Historically we have not been a vehicle based game, I can really only remember 2 instances where we actively used them, Snakeplain and Arctic on AA2. As a result if we design a big map that a vehicle can sensibly exist in then im all for it otherwise lets just hoof it like a normal Soldier and concentrate on the game play.

it's actually quite nice to ride them at Nassau though. location is probably a little too exotic for this game though.
