I dont´t want to complain that much but:

A Trojan horse, or Trojan, is a non-self-replicating type of malware which appears to perform a desirable function but instead facilitates unauthorized access to the user's computer system. Trojans do not attempt to inject themselves into other files like a computer virus. Trojan horses may steal information.

Why don´t ask if they can get the information or not?
But i get your Points.

Steam is not alone in its data collection. Microsoft and most other applications ask to send information so they can collect statistics. Providing system info benefits the consumer as much as it does the software providers. They are not collecting your passwords and other files.

If you think they are doing more than that then why do you think it is isolated to Steam? Why not suspect every application that is installed on your system? What is really happening on all those programs when you enter the CD key and validate?

I love steam and do not care what info they collect. If they want to know what my favorite beer is....I will let them know.

I am not a secret agent therefore I could care less what they or any other legit software company does with my info.

I Know and have agreed, but I have thought twice or more before...

So I can see that a few may not want this to have on their computer. I personally know one who wanted to play aa3 and plays now aa2.5 out of this reason.

the key is, for a trojan as you are quoted:

Quote:

basically, a trojan is an unwanted program. Steam, like every other trusted software, would be required to post an EULA, which per your agreement, would allow them to "steal" information. the big difference is in the permissions.

you can reject the program if you don't want them taking certain info, but essentially it's pretty harmless. especially since the big thing is, they're in this business for the money. I doubt they want to scare customers away with that kind of scam. that would be a horrible business model.
