Yes. Re install Windows. It might "work" if you dont but it will never be right especially moving CPU brands.

Frank : Thats a nice cooler, I do like the look of this one which might be my next purchase

i wonder if i would 'need' to re-install windows? or would my hardrive with the current O/S just work when put with the new mobo? thats something ive never tried before or even considered.. it would save me a lot of time reacquiring much stuff

I tried that a couple of times, they all ended in a clean install.

With a TDP of 84°C for your CPU you're close to the limit.
Its probably not something i would put on a i5/i7, looks cool tho

damn :(

i have picked a bundle, http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu ... =BU-010-MS and also gonna grab 8gb of ram to start me off.. now im just wondering if i'll need to grab a new heatsink too since the one i have (http://www.arctic.ac/eu_en/freezer-xtreme.html ) is a few years old, discontinued (they now have a rev.2 model) and im not sure if it'll fit the board, the instructions say nothing about LGA1150 since it wasnt around at that time  i might just grab one anyway, coming from a Phenom X4 940 im not even sure if it will cool the i7 well enough, even if did fit..

hopefully (maybe) after the upgrade i will be inspired to get back into mapping, afterall i'll need to test differences of course, like build times and asset loading and tbh my current PC just dont cut the cloth for such tasks to be honest, which was a major factor in me taking the break from doing it

If you got a fitting mounting kit, it is still good.
A lot of the later LGA sockets have the same pattern for cooler mounting.
I know that 1155/1156 and 1150 is the same, could be more, 75mm hole pattern.

thanks i looked into it, even asked the store by webnote, they kinda said no and pointed me in the direction to buy a new one, i think just to make a sale

but sod it, im gonna get a new one anyway, not convinced the one i have will be good enough tbh, it probably would do the job better than stock for sure.. im learning intel are actually cooler than AMD processors?

better to be safe than sorry, im seriously thinking about getting a waterblock cooler. dont know which yet, corsair maybe.. but i have a few more weeks until i take the plunge

and get the additional pump noise, fear of leaking, pump failure and same efficiency as high end air.
The enclosed water coolers have one use, high end cooling in a tiny space as high end air dont fit into miniature cases.
If i were to turn my m-itx box into a high end gaming pc i would probably look at enclosed water, in my regular gaming box, nope, custom water or air(as i use now)
