These days mobo's have codes displayed... never mind the beeping lol

Yes, the Q-code display. I guess i dont need that little eraser-sized speaker for beeps any more. I did a quick power up today and the Maximus MB has all kinds of stuff lighting up!! I loaded up the BIOS and was blown away with all the stuff in it, and you can even use a mouse to navigate threw all the settings. I thought that was cool.

All I got left to do is install the HD and DVD. I thought I would be done in 2 hours but more like 4 hours trying to be extra careful and doing some nice cable layout.

Since I am new to OC-ing, and this BIOS is waaaay more advanced then anything I had in the past, I wanted to get familiar with the settings.

I installed the AI Suite III so now I'm just about ready to do the 5-way optimization from the Windows desktop.

Another thing I installed from the mobo package is the RamDisk Util. I haven't used one of those since DOS. Has anyone tried installing AAPG or other games to a ram disk to get better performance?

Don't trust the 5 way optimization,it will set the voltage too high to run your cpu overclocked at max speed. After it's done,go back to bios and set the cpu voltage to adaptive mode, with this setting depending on the cpu load it will only take as much power as it needs instead of running on 1,3+ volts all the time. Also fan xpert curves for your case and cpu will be set to 70-80 degrees celsius when to run your fans at max speed,i would set it lower and do a manual curve with a custom profile.

Temperatures in 5 way optimization are not accurate, they show lower temps by 4-5 degrees than they actually are.Use this http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/ to monitor cpu temp when you need to or want to,around 80 celsius should be your max highest limit for cpu consider every temp above wrong or too high for every day usage decreasing the lifespan of your cpu and increasing the chance of a bluescreen or malfunction.

If you are new to this, here is a recommendation to watch and get some tips https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CHs5_TdpXE ,he is also Canadian but trustworthy.

im not sure you even need to overclock with that beast.. when i take the plunge i wont be taking any risks, no matter what or who says things like "but..but you can get 5GhZ on that bad boy!".. way i see it, it dont matter too much when the stock speed is already overkill

just slap it in, slap windows/steam/AAPG on it and play.. enjoy the out of box performance and normal lifetime of product

dont go killing it so soon
